A Chrome extension for Google Meet
Tally records your Meet calls, including your own voice, saves them to your Google Drive and puts a transcript right next to each one.
Then press Alt Shift R in any Meet call.
The 28-second tour. Unmute it for sound.
Audio onlyAbout 15 MB per hour, so uploads are quick.
Saved to your own DriveA “Meet Recordings” folder, yours to share or delete.
Any Google accountNo paid Workspace plan needed to record.
Setup takes a few minutes the first time: connect Google Drive, allow your microphone and add your OpenAI API key for transcripts. After that, every call works the same way.
Step 1
Join your Meet call and click Tally in the toolbar, or press Alt Shift R. Tally reminds you if you forget.
Step 2
A small bar on the Meet page shows the timer. Pause, resume or stop without leaving the conversation.
Step 3
When you stop, the recording uploads to your Drive and the transcript appears right next to it.
Tally takes the call audio straight from the browser tab and mixes in your microphone, so both sides of the conversation end up in one file. Headphones work perfectly.
When you mute yourself in Meet, Tally stops recording your mic too, and says so on the call page.
Every recording gets a transcript with timestamps and speaker labels, saved as a text file or a Google Doc.
Pick the language in settings or let Tally detect it. Wrong guess? Transcribe it again in another language from the Recordings list.
Uses your own OpenAI API key. Transcripts are made by OpenAI’s speech-to-text and billed to your OpenAI account. Without a key, Tally still records and saves to Drive.
Audio is kept on your computer as it records, until it’s safely in Drive. A crash costs a few seconds at most.
If your connection drops, the upload continues from where it stopped once you’re back online.
When you start, Tally can post a short message in the meeting chat saying the call is being recorded.
Leave the call and Tally stops and saves on its own, so you never end up with a two-hour file of silence.
Meetings are private. Tally is built so you stay in control of where the audio goes.
Read the privacy policyYes. Tally records the call from the browser tab and mixes in your microphone. If you skip the microphone during setup, only the other people are recorded.
Meet doesn’t tell participants about browser extensions, so Tally can post a message in the meeting chat when you start. We still recommend saying it out loud.
No. Tally works with any Google account. Recordings and transcripts are saved to your own Google Drive.
Transcripts are made by OpenAI’s speech-to-text. With your own key, audio goes from your browser straight to OpenAI under your account, and OpenAI bills you directly for what you use.
Create a key in your OpenAI account under API keys, then paste it into Tally’s settings. Recording and saving to Drive work without one.
An hour of audio is about 15 MB, compared with more than a gigabyte for video. Uploads finish in seconds, and audio is all a transcript needs.
No. For privacy, Chrome only lets a recording start after you click the extension or press its shortcut. Tally reminds you when you join a call, and stops on its own when you leave.
